Book a stay at Greywalls and immerse yourself in its distinctive surroundings while enjoying some of Scotland’s finest golf. The house sits on the very edge of the historic Muirfield links and is just minutes from championship courses including Gullane, Luffness, North Berwick, Renaissance, and Archerfield.

Greywalls has a long and celebrated connection with the game, having welcomed many golfing greats during past Open Championships. We can accommodate golf parties of up to 40 guests in the main house, while smaller groups may enjoy the privacy of the Colonel's House.

More than a Golf Hotel

When you book Greywalls, your party enjoys exclusive use of the house and gardens for the duration of your stay.

Savor the seclusion and distinctive character of this historic property: linger over a drink on the lawn overlooking Muirfield’s 18th green, stroll through the peaceful walled gardens, and dine with views of the championship course. Relax in the understated comfort of our lounges and library before retiring to individually designed bedrooms, each furnished with timeless antiques.

Those in the know return again and again.

Golf in east lothian

Often described as a golfer’s paradise, East Lothian enjoys a favorable microclimate, offering more playable days than many other parts of Scotland. Most courses here are traditional Scottish links, with undulating fairways, hidden bunkers, and gorse and heather lining the rough.

With ten courses, including four championship layouts, within five miles of Greywalls, this is the perfect base for anyone wishing to experience the full spectrum of Scottish golf.

Greywalls sits proudly alongside the world‑renowned Muirfield Golf Course, overlooking the 18th green and out across the Firth of Forth to the Kingdom of Fife. While Greywalls does not have its own course, we maintain special relationships with Muirfield and Archerfield Links to access a limited number of tee times for our guests, subject to availability.

We are happy to recommend itineraries and arrange transportation for other local courses, but tee times at those venues must be booked directly with the clubs.

Muirfield

Muirfield is the most famous and one of just three private major courses in Scotland requiring private arrangements for play. Home to the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, Muirfield is regarded as the oldest Golf Club in the world having been originally founded in 1744. As host to The British Open 16 times Muirfield is ranked amongst the top fifty courses in the world.

  • There is also a charming children’s course, where adults need nothing more than a seven iron for a fun diversion.

Whitekirk and Dunbar

Less than 20 minutes from Greywalls, these two courses offer contrasting experiences:

  • Whitekirk – A hilly inland course with panoramic countryside views.

  • Dunbar – A historic coastal links often used as a British Open pre‑qualifier.
